It was originally called GITE and was launched in 1981. With the launch of MacWorld in 1988, it expanded to an exhibition sharing multiple halls in the United Arab Emirates at the Dubai World Trade Center. And was renamed GITEX– Gulf Information Technology Exhibition.

The show returned to Dubai for its 41st edition, from October 10-14, 2022.
